Purpose: learn how to avoid unwanted DPD surcharges when your package does not meet the carrier shipping conditions.
📐 Dimension & size surcharges
Surcharge oversize and oversize weight – €39.20
This surcharge applies if your parcel exceeds DPD’s weight or size limits. Oversized or heavy parcels are removed from the automated sorting system and manually handled, which triggers the fee.
For international shipments, check volumetric weight too: if L x W x H / 5000 exceeds 31.5kg, this surcharge also applies.
DPD Home limits:
- Length > 175cm
- Weight > 31.5kg
- Belt circumference > 300cm
DPD Pick-up point limits:
- Length > 100cm
- Weight > 20kg
- Belt circumference > 250cm
How to avoid this surcharge:
Stay well within DPD’s size and weight limits. Parcels are measured automatically, and even small overages can trigger a surcharge. Allow extra space to avoid rounding differences in weight or dimensions.
Oversize or Overweight Small Parcels (KP)
This surcharge applies to parcels that exceed the 3 kg weight limit or the maximum dimensions for a small parcel (Klein pakket/KP), which are 50 cm in length and 111 cm in circumference (L + 2W + 2H).
📦 Packaging, weight & labels
Non standard package (NSP) – €2.90
A non-standard package allowance can be applied for parcels which fall under any of the below criteria.
Your package:
- Has a length or diagonal measurement > 130cm and ≤ 175cm (maximum length);
- Has unstable, irregular shapes (sphere, cylinder, roll)
- Has a poorly legible label or missing shipping label.
*This list is not exhaustive - check the DPD shipping conditions.
Non-conveyable parcel – €2.50
A non-conveyable surcharge may apply to parcels that meet size limits but require manual handling due to shape or packaging.
Surcharge heavy parcel – €2.10
A surcharge may apply to parcels weighing over 20kg and up to 31.5kg, as they require additional handling and adjustments in the sorting and transport process.
Surcharge new label (barcode not readable) – €0.70
A parcel label is essential for sorting and delivery. If the barcode is unreadable, a new label will be added.
Surcharge new label (new label) – €1.20
A surcharge applies if a label must be printed or reprinted due to issues like an illegible or incorrect barcode.
Surcharge repacking parcel – €10.20
If a parcel is insufficiently packed or severely damaged, it will be repacked. A surcharge applies for the materials and manual handling involved.
📮 Delivery, returns & pickup
Surcharge package return to sender
If a parcel is refused by the recipient and returned, a surcharge will apply in addition to your regular shipping costs.
Avoid this by verifying the recipient’s address and enabling tracking notifications to keep them informed.

Additionally, pickup costs may apply for requests requiring specific conditions, such as dedicated or specialized trucks. The surcharge may vary depending on the case, region, number of pallets or parcels, the customer, and the type of vehicle required (such as a trailer, truck, or small truck).
🏔️ Remote area surcharges
Surcharge remote area
DPD applies a surcharge for deliveries to remote or hard-to-reach areas, such as islands or ski regions, due to longer transit times.

Where can I see these surcharges on my invoice?
Surcharges are applied by the carrier after the shipment has been processed and may not be visible when you create the label.
You can find these charges in your Sendcloud account via Account > Billing, where you can download your invoice in PDF or CSV format:
- PDF invoice: Shows a summary of your total costs, including surcharges.
- CSV invoice: Shows a detailed breakdown per shipment, including the tracking number, shipping cost, and any applied surcharges.
💡 Tip: Use the tracking number in the CSV to identify which shipment a surcharge applies to.
For a full explanation of how shipping costs and surcharges are invoiced and how to read them, see Shipment invoicing.
To avoid the above mentioned surcharges, please carefully read the shipping conditions, make sure you stay well within the permitted dimensions and, of course, select the right network for your package.
