Fuel surcharge
As of 11-01-2022, a fuel surcharge will apply to all parcels shipped with DHL Express. The fuel costs are a monthly variable vary based on the current fuel price. Click here for more information.
Surcharge remote area - minimum of 20.05/10.05 EUR per shipment
This surcharge applies when a shipment is collected from, or delivered to a location that is distant or difficult to serve. The Remote Area surcharge applies to both international and domestic shipments. These surcharges may vary based on the area where you are shipping to. The price is calculated as follows:
- 0.70 per kg with a minimum of a 22.20 EUR

Surcharge overweight - 95.20 EUR per piece
A fixed surcharge is applied to every piece, including a pallet, that exceeds a scale or volumetric weight* of 70 kg. This surcharge applies to both international and domestic shipments.
How can I prevent this surcharge?
To avoid this surcharge, we advise you to stay broad in terms of parcel weights. Packages are weighed by specially calibrated equipment, however, measurement differences can occur. Always allow yourself some additional room to ensure you won't exceed the maximum weight.
*In order to get the volumetric weight, you can use the following equation: length x width x height (in cm) divided by 5000
Surcharge oversize - 20.20 EUR per shipment
A fixed surcharge is applied to every piece, including a pallet, of which a single dimension is in excess of 120cm. This surcharge applies to both international and domestic shipments.
Note: A package larger than the maximum specifications is sent back to the sender. The surcharge is invoiced. The surcharge is calculated if any of the dimensions, length, width or height, is exceeded.
How can I prevent this surcharge?
To avoid this surcharge, we advise you to stay broad in terms of parcel dimensions. Packages are measured and weighed by specially calibrated equipment, however, measurement differences can occur. Always allow yourself some additional room to ensure you won't exceed the dimensions.
Surcharge non-stackable pallet - 300.20 EUR per piece
This fixed surcharge is applied to every pallet within a shipment that cannot be stacked, either on request by the shipper, or because of its shape, content or packaging. This surcharge applies to domestic and international shipments.
Surcharge address correction - 11.20 EUR per shipment
This fixed surcharge is applied to any shipment that has an incorrect delivery address at the time of pickup and the delivery cannot be fulfilled after making efforts at the destination to determine the correct address. This surcharge applies to domestic and international shipments.
Surcharge data entry - 10.20 EUR per shipment
This fixed surcharge applies for each shipment consigned with non-electronic, paper-based manual waybills. Electronic shipping documentation incurs no additional charges.
Surcharge export declaration - 5.20 EUR per shipment
Applicable to exporting goods being subject to additional controls. DHL Express submits the export declaration for commodity values above 1000 EUR on behalf of the customer to accelerate export at the origin.
Surcharge dangerous goods, dry ice and lithium batteries - 80.00 EUR per shipment
Under some circumstances, DHL Express can carry acceptable quantities of dangerous goods or hazardous materials. Surcharges can vary depending on what you are shipping but the charge will most likely be 80 EUR, so we ask that you please consult the following for more information: DHL Express NL Surcharges.
Peak surcharge
A temporary surcharge, which allows DHL to cover part of the operating cost increases resulting from necessary air network adjustments during Peak Season. May be applied at any time of year, but usually before or during the fall/winter holidays and Chinese New Year.
Pick & Pack Service- 25.20 EUR
Get an extra pair of hands with our pick & pack service. DHL will manage the process of waybill preparation, content selection, labelling, and packaging, then sends the shipments to the designated addresses. Please contact your DHL account manager for details.
Dedicated Pickup - € 0.45/kg minimum of € 30.00
If your business needs a dedicated vehicle to collect unusual shipments, or a pickup outside normal business hours, we can arrange this.
Saturday Pickup - 30.20 EUR
One-time pickup of your shipment on Saturday. Having frequent shipments and require a regular Saturday pickup? Please contact your DHL account manager for details.
Neutral Delivery - 5.20 EUR
This service allows for the delivery of non-document shipments without any product value, such as gifts, being shared or exposed to the receiver.
Saturday Delivery - 40.20 EUR
DHL Express offers Saturday delivery services in over 70 countries. To check availability, please get in touch with our Customer Service team.
Residential Address - 5.20 EUR
Get alerts and scheduling options for home deliveries. Customers shipping to a home or private residence can activate specific delivery options by designating the delivery address as residential. For such shipments, DHL Express will proactively notify the receiver via SMS and/or email about the shipment’s progress. Receivers can then select the most suitable delivery option on the On Demand Delivery website.
Proof of Delivery (POD)
Proof of delivery for your shipment can be requested.
Non-Conveyable Piece - 20.20 EUR
This surcharge applies to any piece with an actual weight between 25 kg and 70 kg. The surcharge does not apply to pieces already subject to an Overweight or Oversize Piece surcharge.
Bonded Transit - 48.20 EUR
Upon request, the transit of a shipment under customs bond. This applies to both export and import shipments whenever DHL needs to open, manage, or report any type of bonded transfer.
Multiline Entry - 7.70 EUR
The clearance of a shipment or piece with multiple commodities or multiple origins for the same commodity. Fees apply when a shipment has 6 or more lines for entry.
Clearance Authorization - 38.20 EUR
Contacting the designated importers who have specifically requested contact before customs clearance of the shipment. Using ‘Clearance Authorization’ in combination with ‘Bonded Transit’ or any other applicable surcharges means that both fees will be charged.
Preferential Origin - 10.20 EUR
At request, DHL prepares a Certificate of Origin or other
similar to certifying that the goods in a particular export shipment have been produced
or manufactured in a particular country, allowing preferential rates of duty to be
claimed at the destination. Examples are EUR1, ATR1
Bonded Storage 11.20 EUR/day + 0.42 EUR/kg/day per shipment
Storage charges apply when the shipment cannot be released by customs due to inaccurate or missing paperwork. Charges are effective three calendar days after the freight arrival date or broker notification, whichever is later. The charge applies to the duty and taxpayer. € 11.00 per day + € 0.22 per kg

Temporary Import/Export - 45.20 EUR
At the Customer’s request, DHL facilitates the temporary import/export of goods. This involves submitting required documents, such as an ATA Carnet, and adhering to required clearance procedures as specified by Customs.
Permits and Licenses - 50.20 EUR
To accelerate the import of selected controlled commodities, DHL applies a charge for the preparation and submission of any entry necessary to clear Customs, or for the preparation of the necessary import paperwork to obtain the required import permits or licenses.
Broker Notification - 76.20 EUR
At the importer’s request, DHL will provide the paperwork to the customer’s designated broker to perform the import clearance and resume the delivery once the clearance is completed. Depending on the duration, a ‘Bonded Storage’ fee can be charged as well.
Other Government Agency - 400.20 EUR
On request, DHL will arrange the completion of Veterinary, Health, or Phytosanitary controls at the First Point of Entry in a country or a Customs Union, typically required when importing animal products, plants, seeds, or pharmaceutical products.
Post Clearance Modification - 80.20 EUR
DHL can modify the value, commodity, country of manufacture, or terms of trade information after the import clearance process for goods, to correct or elaborate on what was submitted previously to Customs. Modifications are also necessary when import details such as the VAT number are incorrect on the declaration.
Jet Fuel Surcharge
The jet fuel surcharge is based on the average spot prices for US Gulf Coast (USGC) kerosene jet fuel. Determined monthly and available at dhlexpress.nl.
Emergency Situation
A temporary surcharge, which allows us to cover operating cost increases due to an emergency situation out of DHL’s control. Change in market dynamics and air capacity availability is reflected through regular price adjustments. More information can be found on the website of DHL Express.
GoGreen Plus - Desination dependend, minimum 0.38/kg
With this service, DHL reduces approximately 30% of the CO2 emissions from your air freight shipments by purchasing more sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). GoGreen Plus supports reduction targets for Scope 3 according to SBTi standards. SGS annually audits the process to ensure compliance with regulations and standards. This service is activated for you by default. On a contractual basis, we offer customized solutions where you can agree on alternative CO2 reduction levels.
