Purpose: learn how to set up your default shipping settings. These settings will automatically be applied to your orders unless your Shipping rules or the Dynamic Checkout tell otherwise.
The default shipping settings ensure that all your orders come in with the same information. You can add them via Settings > Default Shipping Settings.
Shipping defaults consist of the following information:
- Default weight
- Preferred shipping method
- Default total insurance
- Default customs shipment type
- Show order reference on the label
- Show the 'postage paid' logo on the letter shipment label
- Show QR code on unstamped letter label
- Use order number as invoice number on customs document
Default weight: this is the total shipment weight. Keep in mind that this weight might affect your shipping method. Some methods use various weight classes. Furthermore, some carriers also take the volumetric weight into account. Make sure to check the shipping conditions of the carrier before selecting your default weight.
Preferred shipping method: select the shipping method that you'll be using the most. When an order comes in, this shipping method will automatically be assigned. If the shipping method is not available for the order (for example: the weight is too high/low, or the method isn't available for the shipping country) another shipping method will automatically be selected.
Default total insurance: Shipping defaults let you set an insurance value for all parcels. In Shipping defaults, enter a percentage of the order value that you wish to insure by default.
Default customs shipment type: the shipment type is required information when shipping outside of the EU. It's used to create the correct customs documents. You can set a default shipment type by selecting it from the dropdown menu.
Show order reference on the label: if you want to show the order number on your label, you can select this box. Keep in mind that not all carriers allow you to add the order number. If you've selected this feature and it's still not showing up on the label, that's most likely why. If you're not sure, please reach out to our support team.
Show the 'postage paid' logo on the letter shipment label: by selecting this box, your unstamped letter labels will automatically receive the 'postage paid' logo. This is a replacement for using a stamp to add postage paid to your letters.
Show QR code on unstamped letter labels: if you want a QR code to show on your unstamped letter labels, you can select this box. Sendcloud doesn't have a purpose for the QR, which is why we don't show it by default. However, we know that some of our users have created their own system that's linked to these QR codes.
Use order number as invoice number on customs document: when you ship outside of the EU, your customs documents need certain information. The invoice number is part of the required information. If preferred you can select this option, to automatically fill in the order number at the invoice number. This way you don't need to manually add the invoice number every time. This is only applicable if you want the invoice number to be the same as the order number.
