Purpose: In this article, we explain the surcharges for Poste Delivery Business.

Domestic surcharges

Recipient absent

After 2 delivery attempts + 10 days of storage (included in the price) the shipment is returned to sender. The fee for this is equal to the shipping costs.

Storage Procedure Dossier Opening - €5.20 per shipment

If the recipient can't be identified (e.g. the address is incorrect and therefore the name of the receiver doesn't match with the person at the delivery address), Poste Delivery Business will store the parcel for 3 days. A fee of €5.20 is taken into for the storage of the parcel. If the new address isn't reported within 3 days, the parcel will be returned to sender.

Redelivery fees - €3.70 per shipment

Additional to the Storage Procedure Dossier Opening surcharge, a fee of €3.70 is taken into account if a new address is reported. These are the costs for forwarding the shipment to a new address.

Shipment Return to Sender/Abandonment

The customer may indicate to return the shipment to sender or abandon it at its own responsibility (Recipient absent). When this happens a fee in the amount of the shipping costs will be charged.

Proactive release - €1.70 per shipment

In the event of an impossible delivery due to a missing or incorrect address, Poste Delivery Business will try, with no guarantee of success, to find the correct address and deliver the shipment to the recipient. For this service, a surcharge of €1.70 is charged.

Irregular Size/Shape - €15.20 per shipment

For each shipment with a package of an irregular size/shape (cylinders, pyramids, items not packaged in boxes suitable for shipping, etc.) a fee of €15.20 is charged.

Non-stackable Items - €15.20 per shipment

For each shipment with a package and/or pallet that has characteristics that prevent it from being stacked (Cylindrical, pyramidal shapes, items not packed in boxes suitable for shipping, etc.).

Oversize surcharge

This surcharge will be taken into account when a shipment exceeds one of the following weight/size limits:

• Weight: > 70 kg per package or > 500 kg per pallet;

• Dimensions:

  • Packages: 450 cm as the sum of the three dimensions (L+W+H), of which two dimensions may not exceed 280 cm and 170 cm

  • Pallets: base 120 x 100 cm, height (including support) 170 cm;

The oversize surcharge will be added to the total shipment price for each package exceeding the limits, according to the table below.

Weight Cost Correction

When the declared weight at the time of shipment creation does not match the actual weight recorded by the carrier, Poste Delivery Business will apply a cost correction. This is not an optional surcharge but an automatic adjustment to reflect the actual shipping costs. This correction applies to both domestic and international shipments.

How does it work?

• The carrier verifies the parcel's weight at the time of shipment.
• If the declared weight falls within a lower range than the actual weight, the shipment will be recalculated based on the correct weight range.
• The cost difference will be charged to the sender.

Practical example:

If a parcel is declared with a weight of 0-0.5 kg, but the carrier records an actual weight of 2.5-3 kg, the cost will be adjusted based on the correct weight range (2.5-3 kg).

DigiPOD

It's possible to request a POD (proof of delivery) for your shipment. However, Poste Delivery Business does charge a fee of €2.00 for this request in the case of domestic shipments.
Note: the request must be made through our Customer Support.

In the case of international shipments, DigiPOD is available for free for 3 months from the date of delivery of the shipment. The DigiPOD of an international shipment can be requested for free.

International surcharges

Remote areas - price varies per region

Shipments to the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, Azores, and Madeira will receive a remote area surcharge. The prices vary depending on the weight of the parcel and its destination. Click here to see a table with the different prices.

Import charges consist of import duties and taxes, where applicable, and customs clearance fees. Any additional import charges related to particular categories of goods (e.g. import clearance for medicines) could also be attributed:

• Customs duty is a European Union tax and its amount varies according to the value and type of imported goods
• VAT, or Value Added Tax, is a national tax linked to the consumption of goods or services. Some e-commerce websites allow payment of VAT at the time of purchase - in these cases VAT will not be charged at the time of delivery
• Customs clearance fees are the amount charged by Poste Italiane for customs clearance activities carried out on behalf of the recipient. Customs clearance fees differ depending on whether the item has a commercial or non-commercial nature and depend on the value of the goods declared on the customs declaration and/or the VAT advance payment at the time of purchase.

*With reference to customs clearance fees, please note that, in the following cases, the full rate of 15 € is applied also to those objects whose value is lower than 1.000 €: commercial items whose recipient is a company; items which must be placed in temporary storage to initiate the process of ascertaining and retrieving information from the recipient, due to missing or non-compliant declaration or supporting documentation of the shipment; item subject to the ordinary procedure for the following categories: art objects, antiques, collectors' items (e.g. stamps). Shipments for which VAT does not have to be paid, as it is already paid at the time of purchase, are exempt from Customs clearance fees.

Collection surcharges - Import - price varies per zone

This surcharge is applied to a return shipment from abroad, to Italy. This surcharge is only applied to pickups by companies and business customers, and the request can be made through our Customer Support. The prices per zone are as follows:

• Zone 1: €15,60
• Zone 2: €24,40
• Zone 3: €15.60
• Zone 5: €11,10

Pallet shipments

This surcharge is applied to pallet shipments. The prices per zone* are:

• Zone 1: €39.88
• Zone 2: €49.93
• Zone 3: €59.70
• Zone 4: €24.62
• Zone 5: €35.70

Import of pallet shipments

This surcharge is applied to shipments that are returned to Italy on pallets. The prices per zone* are:

• Zone 1: €15.60
• Zone 2: €24.40
• Zone 3: €15.60
• Zone 5: €11.09

Oversize surcharge - 10.20€

If the sum of the parcel's length + girth [(width + height) x 2] exceeds 225 cm and/or the longest side measures more than 150 cm, a surcharge of €10.20 will be applied to the total price of the shipment for each oversize parcel.

The max weight cannot exceed 30 kg per parcel.

Import surcharges - 17.19€

Extra weight/size rules - 56.20€

If a parcel exceeds 120 cm in its longest dimension (classified as a Bulky Parcel) and/or has a girth greater than 360 cm [(width + height) x 2], a surcharge of €56.20 will be added to the total shipping cost for each oversized parcel.

Please carefully read the shipping conditions to avoid the above surcharges. Make sure that you stay well within the permitted dimensions and ensure that the packaging meets the correct criteria.
