Objective: Learn what beta means when a feature, carrier, or integration is marked as such
When a new carrier, integration, or feature is introduced to Sendcloud, it goes through a process called beta testing before being released to all users. Before the beta version is released, our in-house QA engineers check everything to ensure it works as intended. If you find any bugs or errors during this phase, we encourage you to send us your feedback.
What is a beta test?
Beta testing allows us to pre-release new features to our users so they can test them in real-life conditions. We use this testing period to polish the last details and subject everything to usability tests, thus reducing the possibility of our users encountering bugs or errors later on.
The type of releases that usually go into beta are the following:
- Features - the latest features, product updates and improvements to the platform itself
- Carriers – new shipping methods or carriers that we introduce to our platform; and
- Integrations - Introductions to new eCommerce platforms, WMS systems and marketplaces that want to partner with us, allowing more eCommerce retailers to connect their business with Sendcloud.
Open or closed beta testing
Closed testing is when we release the update to a select group of users through our Sendcloud Customer Engagement Program ( SCOPE ). We want to make sure that new features are thoroughly tested to limit the chance that you encounter any disruptions to your workflow. Sometimes you'll see a message in the Help Center that a feature is only available to beta users.
You can read more about what the closed beta test entails and how you can apply here .
Open testing is when we release the functionality, carrier or integration to all users, but under the beta label :

Can I use the carriers, integrations and features in beta?
Yes, of course you can! Anything with the beta label that appears in your Sendcloud account is open for you to use as part of open beta testing. Even if you are not a SCOPE member, you can start using them right away. We just ask that you let us know about any issues, bugs, or errors you encounter.
How can I share my feedback during the beta phase?
You can create a support ticket directly from your Sendcloud account and describe the issue you've encountered. Sometimes we'll ask you to provide some kind of visual evidence , so we have a more accurate description of the error you've encountered.
Even if you are not part of SCOPE, you can start actively using beta features, carriers and integrations as soon as they are available in your Sendcloud account. We ask that you report any issues, bugs or errors you encounter while using them.
How long do beta tests last?
It depends on the type of release and the number of issues reported to us. When we think that a new feature, integration or carrier has been fully tested and no new issues are being reported, we fully release the feature and remove the beta flag.
