Carrier changes due to Brexit

Purpose: Keep up to date with the latest announcements from carriers regarding delays and service disruptions following Brexit.

  

General advice

We recommend you review the following advice from the UK Government when it applies to you and your business:

You can check our Brexit FAQ for advice regarding VAT, EORI numbers, Incoterms and customs documents. 

Both a GB and an EU EORI number are required for shipments to the UK. Please check the following article for information on how to obtain an EORI, and how to ensure it is included on your customs documentation in Sendcloud: How do I add my EORI and VAT number?

Northern Ireland remains a member of the EU Customs Union. Tariffs and duties should not be required for goods sent from Great Britain to Northern Ireland.

Update: 17/02/2021: Please be aware that currently a number of parcels shipped with UPS are being returned to sender with no explanation. Due to the current high shipping volumes at the UK border, UPS are returning parcels rather than delaying them for a two-three week period.

DPD

 DPD UK Brexit Guide DPD have announced that they have paused their service into Europe and the Republic of Ireland until further notice due to challenges to their service and unavoidable delays. 

Hermes

 Hermes Brexit Guide You must include three paper copies of the commercial invoice when shipping to the ROI or the EU.

PostNL

 PostNL Brexit Guide For shipments to the UK you will now have to use the shipping method Global Pack. It is no longer possible to use PostNL Abroad.

DHL

 DHL Brexit Guide

For shipments to the UK, you can use DHL Europlus (business addresses) and DHL Parcel Connect (private addresses).

Please note that DHL has introduced additional surcharges for shipments to the UK:

  • Customs clearance: €12.95 (DHL Europlus) or €8.95 (DHL Parcel Connect) + €0.35 per HS code.
  • Duty Billing: €2.95 + 3% of the amount advanced (min. €10). This surcharge applies when DHL advances import costs on your behalf.

DPD

 DPD Brexit Guide

From 16 January, DPD European Road Services are again fully operational and available for all customers to use their transport services to Europe, including the Republic of Ireland. 

When this is possible a surcharge of €1,75 will apply for DPD shipments to the UK.

UPS

 UPS Brexit Guide UPS is introducing a €5.00 surcharge for shipments to the UK.

DHL

 DHL Express Brexit Guide For DHL Express, a kilogram surcharge of €0.25/kg will apply with a minimum of €5.00 for shipments to the UK.
