Purpose: In this article, you'll learn how the language is selected for shipping labels when using Mondial Relay. This helps ensure the right language appears on your parcel labels, based on where you are shipping from.
Why does the label language matter?
The language on your Mondial Relay shipping label is important for handling and communication during delivery. It needs to be clear for both the receiver and the carrier. That’s why we’ve updated how we decide which language to use.
How the label language is chosen
The language is automatically selected based on the sender’s country. If you’re shipping from Belgium, it’s based on the postal code, because Belgium uses more than one official language.
This change applies to all Mondial Relay shipments created through Sendcloud, whether you're using our default shipping methods or your own Mondial Relay contract.
Note about returns
Even for return shipments, the label language is based on the sender’s location, meaning the person who is sending the return.
For example, if a customer in the Netherlands returns a parcel to France, the label will be printed in Dutch.
Label language by country
Shipping From | Label Language |
France | French |
Netherlands | Dutch |
Spain | Spanish |
Belgium | Based on the region (see below) |
Other countries | English |
How it works in Belgium
Belgium has different languages depending on the region. For this reason, the label language is selected based on your postal code. Here is how we choose the language:
Postal Code Range | Region | Label Language |
1000–1299 | Brussels-Capital | French |
1300–1499 | Walloon Brabant | French |
1500–1999 | Flemish Brabant | Dutch |
2000–2999 | Antwerp | Dutch |
3000–3499 | Flemish Brabant & Limburg | Dutch |
3500–3999 | Limburg | Dutch |
4000–4680 | Liège | French |
4700–4799 | Liège (German-speaking) | Dutch |
4800–4852 | Liège (Verviers area) | French |
4860–4999 | Liège (e.g., Malmedy) | French |
5000–5999 | Namur | French |
6000–6599 | Hainaut | French |
6600–6999 | Luxembourg (BE) | French |
7000–7999 | Hainaut | French |
8000–8999 | West Flanders | Dutch |
9000–9999 | East Flanders | Dutch |
What if my country or postal code isn’t listed?
If we can't determine the language based on your country or postal code, the label will be printed in English by default.
Good to know
- You can’t manually choose the label language in Sendcloud, it’s selected automatically.
- This ensures that your labels are readable and compliant for the carriers and local delivery points.
- If you need to change the shipment details or label, you can still do this in your Sendcloud panel.
