GLS NL shipping conditions

Purpose: view the shipping conditions of delivery provider GLS in the Netherlands. GLS offers reliable parcel, freight and express solutions both domestically and internationally for B2B and B2C.

To start shipping you must first have a GLS carrier contract and connect it to your Sendcloud account. You can find information about obtaining a contract with GLS here. 

GLS Parcel

With GLS Parcel you can send both B2B and B2C parcel shipments nationally and internationally. Depending on the destination of your package, you have the choice of 4 products:

• GLS EconomyParcel
• GLS BusinessParcel 
• GLS EuroBusinessParcel 
• GLS GlobalBusinessParcel

GLS EconomyParcel

GLS EconomyParcel is a reliable, economy product that allows you to deliver packages without a signature at delivery. Where possible, the delivery will take place through the mailbox. It has a transit time of less than 24 hours throughout the Netherlands (Texel included). For the other Wadden Islands, a lead time of 48 hours applies.

Shipping method features:

• Reliable and fast delivery for packages up to 32 kg
• Delivery within the Netherlands
• Transit time of of 24h (Texel included); 48h for other Wadden Islands
• Real time Tracking POD included
• Two delivery attempts included 
• No insurance included; AVC applies

Characteristics of the parcel: 

• Maximum weight: 32kg
• Maximum dimensions:
  • Length 200 cm
  • Width 80 cm
  • Height 60 cm
• Maximum belt circumference: The belt circumference (1x length + 2x width + 2x height) of a package may not exceed 300 cm.

GLS BusinessParcel 

GLS BusinessParcel is the method for all your parcel shipments within the Netherlands, to have them delivered within 24 hours. For the Wadden Islands a slightly longer turnaround time applies of 48 hours.  

Shipping method features:

• Reliable and fast transport of parcels up to 32 kg
• Delivery within the Netherlands
• Parcels are delivered within 24 hours throughout the Netherlands, including Texel. For the other Wadden Islands a lead time of 48 hours applies
• Real time Tracking including POD
• Second delivery attempt included
• Standard insurance up to a maximum of 500 EUR per parcel, with an own risk of 50 EUR

GLS EuroBusinessParcel

With GLS EuroBusinessParcel you can have your parcels delivered throughout Europe. Shipments to neighbouring countries such as Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Denmark are usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours. For the more distant countries within Europe, the turnaround time is up to 5 days. 

Shipping method features:

• Parcel delivery throughout Europe up to 32 kg
• Standard turnaround time for surrounding countries is 24-48 hours; more distant regions have a turnaround time between 48-120 hours
• Real time Tracking including POD
• Standard insurance up to a maximum of 500 EUR per parcel, with an own risk of 50 EUR
• Including second delivery attempt or delivery to local ParcelShop if recipient is not at home

GLS GlobalBusinessParcel

GLS GlobalBusinessParcel is there for parcel shipments to countries outside Europe. Within 2 to 6 days your package will be delivered to the recipient. 

Shipping method features:

• In major international business centers, packages typically arrive within two to four days.
• Quick and easy handling
• Standard insurance up to a maximum of EUR 500 per parcel, with an excess of EUR 50
• Second delivery attempt included

  • Height 60 cm
• Maximum belt circumference: The belt circumference (1x length + 2x width + 2x height) of a package may not exceed 300 cm.

GLS Express

One of the advantages of GLS is that it has its own Express network within the Netherlands. Would you like your package to be delivered by the next working day, guaranteed? Then GLS Express is the option for you. Express shipments are delivered from Monday to Saturday.

Shipping method features:

• Available throughout the Netherlands with the exception of the Wadden Islands

• Guaranteed delivery with choice of 3 shipping options:

  • Delivery before the end of the next business day 

  • Delivery before 12 am in the morning 

  • Delivery before 9 am 

• In the unlikely event that the shipment is not delivered on time? GLS will inform you immediately. Is the fault with GLS? Then the money-back guarantee applies. 

• Standard insurance up to a maximum of 1000 EUR per parcel, with an own risk of 50 EUR

• Real time Tracking including POD

GLS Freight

Do you also (or only) send freight shipments? Then GLS might be a good match for you. Please note that this option is only suitable for B2B shipments. Depending on the destination, you can choose from the following options:

• GLS BusinessFreight 
• GLS Eurobusiness Freight 

GLS BusinessFreight 

With GLS BusinessFreight you can send freight shipments within the Netherlands with 24-hour delivery. A shipment to the Wadden Islands takes a little longer, about 48 hours.  

Shipping method features:

• Reliable and fast transport of freight shipments
• Delivery within the Netherlands
• Freight shipments are delivered within 24 hours throughout the Netherlands. For the Wadden Islands a lead time of 48 hours applies.
• Delivery from door to door
• Tracking including POD

Within Freight, GLS has several shipping units, from standard pallet to length collo.

GLS EuroBusinessFreight

GLS EuroBusinessFreight is the method for your freight shipments to countries within Europe. Shipments to neighbouring countries such as Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg are usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours. For the more distant countries within Europe, the turnaround time is usually around 5 days.  

Shipping method features:

• Benelux distribution with a lead time of 24 hours
• Outside Benelux delivery is usually within 48 to 192 hours
• GLS works outside of Benelux with reliable and selected transport partners throughout Europe
• Delivery from door to door
• Tracking including POD
• International and domestic freight collected at the same time

Additional services by GLS

Parcel services:

• FlexDeliveryService | GLS offers the recipient the opportunity to influence the date, time and/or location of the delivery, even before the first delivery attempt. This service is also available for many countries in Europe.

• ShopReturnService | With this convenient return service, the recipient can decide when they want to return the parcel, by offering it to one of more than 700 GLS ParcelShops within the Netherlands.

• ShopDeliveryService | Not at home or prefer to pick up your parcel at a GLS ParcelShop? This service makes it possible by allowing the recipient to choose a GLS PakketShop during the ordering process. The recipient is informed when the parcel can be picked up. 

• SaturdayService | If the recipient is not at home during the week, delivery on Saturday is possible. 

• Pick&ReturnService | Does the recipient want to return a parcel? It's possible for them to hand over their return directly from their address with this service. If the recipient is not at home during the week, then a Saturday delivery is possible. 

• Pick&ShipService | With this service GLS picks up a shipment from any address and delivers it directly to the recipient anywhere in Europe.

Freight services:

• Pick&ReturnService | Does the recipient want to return a shipment? With this service GLS picks up return shipments at any address (also outside the Netherlands) and brings the package back to you. 
• Pick&ShipService | With this service GLS picks up a shipment from any address and delivers it directly to the recipient anywhere in Europe. 

How does GLS pick ups work?

Both package and freight shipments can be picked up daily at an agreed upon time. If you would like GLS to pick up your parcels every week at a specific day and time, that's also possible.

To arrange a pickup, reach out to GLS directly. We, at Sendcloud, cannot arrange it for you.

• If you call before 12:00 noon then the pickup can take place the same day
• To cancel a pickup, contact GLS directly
• There is no minimum quantity to arrange a pickup
• Saturday pickup is not possible

Direct contract shipping methods

Like every carrier, GLS has prepared a document about their General Transport Conditions. If you deviate from the conditions, a surcharge will be charged on your invoice afterwards. When you send with GLS, you automatically agree to the following conditions:
