Cash on Delivery in Prestashop

Purpose: This guide provides detailed instructions on how to set up and use Cash on Delivery (COD) as a payment method in PrestaShop. This guide aims to ensure that merchants can easily offer this convenient payment option to their customers, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Supported Methods for Cash on Delivery

Cash on Delivery in PrestaShop is supported through two primary methods:

Official Cash on Delivery (COD) Plugin:

  • For PrestaShop 8+ versions, this plugin is pre-installed by default in your shop.
  • For versions 1.7 and above, the plugin can be downloaded from the PrestaShop marketplace. You can easily find it by searching for "Cash on Delivery" or by using this direct link to the module.

Please ensure the plugin is activated and properly configured in your PrestaShop admin panel.

Payment Method Title Matching:

If the payment method title contains any of the following words or phrases, it will be recognised as Cash on Delivery:

  • "paiement à la livraison"
  • "barzahlung bei lieferung"
  • "dinheiro na entrega"
Note: The check is not case-sensitive and does not require an exact match, but the words must appear in the order listed. For example, a title like "Payment via cash on delivery method" would be accepted because it includes "cash on delivery."

Setting up Cash on Delivery

There are two primary ways to set up Cash on Delivery (COD) in PrestaShop: using the official COD plugin or using custom payment method titles. 

Use the Official COD Plugin:

Activate the Plugin:

  • Navigate to Modules > Module Manager in your PrestaShop admin panel.
  • Search for the Cash on Delivery plugin and ensure it is activated:

Note: You can always disable the COD if needed and re-enable it later.

Using Custom Payment Method Titles:

  1. Create a New Payment Method:
    • Go to Payment > Payment Methods in your PrestaShop admin panel.
    • Click on Add New Payment Method.
  2. Title Matching:
    • Name your payment method with one of the accepted phrases, ensuring the keywords appear in the correct order.
      • Example titles:
        • "Cash on Delivery"
        • "Pay on Delivery"
        • "Pagamento alla consegna"
  3. Save the Payment Method:
    • Configure additional settings such as fees and applicable customer groups.
    • Save the new payment method.

Offering Cash on Delivery as a payment method in PrestaShop is straightforward with the official COD plugin or by ensuring the payment method title contains the appropriate keywords. This flexibility allows you to cater to customers who prefer to pay upon delivery, enhancing their shopping experience.
